Abstract

Walker Lake is directly affected by the North Branch of Middle Creek and is impounded by a dam both above and below the lake. This study focuses on how the water is influenced as a result of the impoundment as well as the agriculture from the surrounding area. Samples were taken from 3 different sites, above the lake, below the lake, and at a site named Old Bridge. Each site was observed when the lake was stratified as well as before and after turnover to determine how the downstream diatom biofilm communities are affected by the bottom outflow. Other measurements taken at the sample sites include pH, conductivity, temperature, and oxygen (%saturation).
